DIY Balloon Garland

Picture
After fan-girling over almost every balloon garland I've ever seen, I decided to add making one to my to-do list. To be honest, it has been on my to-do list for a while! But having a bit of Sunday afternoon time to spare, I finally decided to give one a go. And I was so impressed with how easy it was! Granted, this one is super straight forward and about the most basic version. . . you've got to start some where!

You will need:
  • Twine (white is preferable)
  • Scissors
  • An assortment of balloons - In this example, I used 65 in white, clear, gold and different pink tones. See here.
  • Something to tie the twine between (I used two fold-out chairs)

First Step:
After figuring out your colour scheme, inflate your balloons either yourself or using an electric pump. Inflate them in varying sizes - smaller ones are especially good for filling the spaces in between larger balloons.

Second Step:
Cut the twine to the length you want for your garland, leaving plenty of room at each end for hanging it up. Tie each end loosely to either chair backs or something else above the floor which will make your garland easier to arrange.

Third Step:
Cut more twine in to pieces around 6-7cm long. Cut enough to allow one for each balloon you have then tie to each balloon.

Fourth Step:
Tie each balloon to the long twine you have set up, sliding them along to bunch them up nice and tight. You can always add extra ones to fill the gaps as you go. Mix up the colours and sizes of balloons and just keep adding until your garland looks full and varied.

Fifth Step:
Your garland is now ready to hang up in your desired location. This may be above a candy table or bar, over a door way or arch or wherever looks good. You could double this garland in length and balloon quantity to make it extra long, and it could go along and then down a door way or window frame. You could add in foil balloons, tassels, flowers or greenery to spice it up.

Some examples of colour schemes:
  • Pinks, greys and whites
  • Black, gold and silver
  • Greens, white and black
  • Blues, silver and white
  • Rainbow colours
  • Burgundy, blush, silver and white
  • Purples, pinks and white

Currently we have the pink garland set available online, but please contact us for any custom garland set.

This balloon garland took me about 20 minutes to put together from start to finish, but if I hadn't had my balloon pump, it would have taken. . . actually I don't know if I could have done it without serious help! So I strongly suggest borrowing a balloon pump if you don't already have one, or begging for help to blow up so many balloons!
